    Although these switches seem antiquated, they worked very well The new electronic switching requires less space to operate. Both have their limitations, however the new electronic systems are more susceptible to line voltage spikes and sags. I worked with a private branch exchange of 200 lines of Strowger Switches while in the Navy. Worked very well unless you had a mechanical failure such as the wipers got hung up due to misalignment.

    A local contractor installed these everywhere in my area when I was a kid. They were highly reliable, quite, and just worked. They were the go to amp for church lecturns where one or two mics were needed. There were plug in transformers for Low Z mics or the jumpers as show here for High Z. They were set up to add either a forth mic input or a magnetic phono preamp at the blanked up tube socket hole. I always saw them used with Altec horn and woofer combos of different types. Although I never saw one develope a filter cap problem, 550 or 600 volt caps would probably be a good idea. This amp has a very nice sound with music too, a pair would be a nice power amp for stereo if you have the room.

      @glasstronic Год назад

      Ah! A Dukane amplifier fan! Every point you make is correct. Also worth noting is that they are build like tanks. Designed to operate 24-7-365. Yes! They make most excellent stereo high fi systems when paired or in quads. I happen to be a collector of them. I have 15 of them, most of them in storage. I use a quad of them for music and one or two for guitar use. You just can't beat 'em. Thanks for posting.

    How does the switch know when one digit has ended and a new one has started?

    • @glasstronic
      @glasstronic Год назад

      It uses the difference in time delay between pulses, accomplished by specially designed relays that have a delay in armature movement as the coil is energized and de-energized,

    We find that a lot of the early transistor radios were mostly outfitted with PNP germanium transistors. I don't know if that was because they were cheaper or if it was because they were the most plentiful at the time. That was a dead giveaway that the ground would be positive. Not 100% sure of when Zenith went to NPN transistors, but the Transoceanic 7000R was outfitted with NPNs, and the polarity of the ground was changed to negative voltage.

  • @fredflintstone8048
    @fredflintstone8048 Год назад

    I recently picked up a 1000D on ebay for a good price. It needs some work.. It took some digging to find the right schematic. Although similar to the 1000 in a number of ways, the 1000D is wired differently in some sections. The worst part is the degradation of the outside of the case where the metal surfaces have bubbled and suffered from some corrosion.. It's almost deaf, but I can pick up one station on the BC band fairly clearly but at low volume. Interestingly connecting either of the bar antennas causes a lot of distortion.. Looking around inside it would seem that it's never been serviced. I look forward to the challenge of getting it working.

    Hello, I'm a fan of your channel.Do any of your Dukane 460 videos address swapping the selenium rectifier in the bias circuit for a 1N007? I've done it but I can't dial in the dropping resistor. i'm a bit stuck. Cheers

    • @glasstronic
      @glasstronic 2 года назад

      A fairly easy fix: leave the existing resistors as the factory had them: R1 = 1K, R3 = 100K, R19 (both of them) = 68K. Cut the lead wire connection leading from the bias supply (R1-R3 junction) to the output tubes grid resistors (junction of both R19 grid resistors. Find a 10K potentiometer. Connect the center (the wiper) to the output tubes grid resistors (junction of both R19 grid resistors). Connect one side of the pot to the bias supply (R1-R3 junction). Connect the other side of the pot to ground. HAPPY BIASING!
